A welcoming word from Maxime Bernier on his new blog
I’m Maxime Bernier, conservative member of Parliament for the Beauce. I’m very happy to welcome you on my new blog. This is my first video message.
As I found out while planning the launch of this blog, it takes a whole lot of work, of preparation and of commitment to be able to create a high-quality website that stands out.
And for a blog to find its own niche in the gigantic information market that is the Internet, it has to be regularly updated with relevant and original content.
This is what I am setting out to do and I hope you will follow me in this new enterprise.
Perhaps you wonder: why exactly is Maxime Bernier, now only an MP, launching this blog?
The reason is simple: I want to make the best use possible of new technologies to communicate my ideas.
Since I got involved in politics three years ago, I have always defended clear values: individual freedom and responsibility, personal integrity and a spirit of enterprise, so that we can live in a society that is even freer and more prosperous.
I have said it many times: these are universal values at the root of our civilisation. They are shared by millions of Canadians, and they find a particular resonance in the region of the country that I represent, the Beauce.
As minister, I did all I could to put these principles into practice. I am particularly proud of the important deregulation of the telephone markets that I accomplished as minister of Industry. At Foreign Affairs, I defended these values everywhere I went. In the archives of this blog, you will find speeches, articles and other documents touching on these questions.
During the past few months, I have had more time to reflect on the causes and solutions to the economic crisis. You will also be able to read or watch the video of a speech that I recently gave on this topic.
I’m offering you my thoughts on various topics on this blog. Your comments are also welcome.
I am canvassing from door to door in a different village of the Beauce every three weeks to meet the people of my riding. This blog has a somewhat similar goal: to discuss with you, to better understand your concerns over the issues that affect us, and in the end to better represent you in Ottawa.
Door-to-door canvassing is the traditional way to directly meet with people. On this blog, I will try a different way to do my job as a politician.
Thank you and see you again soon.
