The black and white opera soirée
Last Saturday, I had the pleasure of co-hosting the Black & White Opera Soirée with Sheila Copps before a full house of 2200 people at the National Arts Centre in Ottawa. This events, which has taken place every year for the past thirteen years, raises funds for Opera Lyra Ottawa and the National Arts Centre Orchestra. This year, the theme was Opera on the Hill and $223,500 were raised.
In addition to the opera singers who gave a magnificent show, Sheila and I did some funny skits. The Soirée also included cameo appearances by MP5, a southern gospel-style quintet made up of members of parliament – Ed Fast, Randy Kamp, Kevin Sorenson, Mark Warawa, and Chuck Strahl – by Elizabeth May, Bob Rae, Lisa Raitt, Paul Dewar, Justin Trudeau, and by the Mayor of Ottawa Larry O’Brien.
More pictures of the Soirée can be seen in the Ottawa Citizen.

Wow! Quel beau tuxedo monsieur Bernier.
As a political junkie, coming from southern Ontario myself, and now living in my husband’s hometown in the Beauce, I’ve always been a fan of Sheila Copps. I was so pleased to see Mr. Bernier co-hosting with her … great pic.
